Have you ever thought you could not go on, that the oppression you suffer will become too great? I don’t know specifically what you’re going through, but rest assured you are not alone, we all suffer from time to time the attacks of the enemy. Take heart, there is hope and rest; a shelter from the storm, and refuge from the oppression. It’s not that we have been abandoned to fend for ourselves – that’s a lie. Temptation, conflict, past and present failures, even the normal processes of living can trigger bad thoughts, which over time mount up, weigh us down, and wear thin our defenses.
“Where does our help come from?” The Psalmist says, “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth…The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:2,8) When king David was being pursued by Saul, he experienced the deliverance of the Lord and he expressed his joy in song and praise to God. He said: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior— from violent people you save me…”I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me… They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support…”As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? (2 Samuel 22:2-4, 18-19, 31-32). I’m not sure there is any better or more accurate expression of our defender, the refuge we find in Him, and His promise.
When the oppression comes, call out to Him, Yeshua, Messiah, for help. He came to destroy the works of the enemy. Through His support and refuge the enemy will find no place from which to launch an attack. There will be no foothold for his evil devices. Even from the harshness of too much sun the Lord will provide shelter. Father God has promised us peace, rest, triumph and victory. Lay hold of His promises, they are assured and ours in the name of Yeshua.
