The Greatest Honor

It is an honor to be the leader of an organization, a Corporation, or even a Team. Perhaps the greatest leader in the world is the President of the United States. There are great honors in every field of endeavor, upon top of those are the various Nobel prizes. In America sporting competition produces celebrities who win championships and the “most valuable player” is singled out for particular honor. In boxing there is a world champion. In other sports the Olympics produces the best athlete in the world with a Gold metal. The academy awards for actors are famous and just one Oscar can make an entire career. Music awards abound with Gold and Platinum albums, but certain performers eclipse the awards simply by the popularity of their music. In the military the medal of honor is perhaps the highest honor given for valor. I’ve probably left out several awards and titles that people earn and every nation has their own particular awards. The Israeli nation has given high honors to certain “Righteous among the Nations”, at Yad Vashem, such as Corrie Ten Boom and Oskar Schindler for saving Jewish lives from the Nazis.

There is one honor that exceeds all the rest and it makes these I’ve mentioned look like a blue star on a child’s kindergarten drawing. This honor is presented by the Supreme King and Lord of heaven and earth. He will say, “‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!'” (Matthew 25:21) Moreover, Yeshua Messiah will honor those who hold fast to Him, saying, “To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.” (Revelation 3:21) There is no greater honor than being called a friend of Yeshua. “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15) This honor is not like those of this world where competition among the biggest, fastest and strongest win the prize. The greatest is the one who became the least in surrender and submission to the Lord and in service to others. The honor in heaven will go to people who had great faith, some so great Yeshua marvelled. (Matt. 8:10-11)
