A Rescue Operation

Have you ever needed rescuing? Many in Afghanistan are looking to be rescued, even many Afghans. We have all been lost, which is similar, but not imminently life threatening as a rescue denotes. We all need rescuing from the enemy and from our fallen human nature which leads to spiritual death. Fortunately, God is a Rescuer.

The Apostle Paul required rescuing several times, saying, “…persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.” (2 Timothy 3:11) Consequently, he had great faith in God’s ability. “The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (2 Timothy 4:18) When Yeshua, (Jesus’ Hebrew name) called Saul to be Paul the Apostle, He gave him a charge and promise. “I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them…” (Acts 26:17)

King David was rescued by God from King Saul and the Apostle Peter was rescued from Herod’s jail. “Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.” When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.” (Acts 12:11-12) Peter also preached faith in God as our rescuer, saying, “and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.” (2 Peter 2:7-9)

God rescued all Israel from Egyptian captivity and many other nations that sought to destroy Israel, including the Nazis and today’s Isamic terrorist/nations. “He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us— to show mercy to our ancestors and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.” (Luke 1:69-75)

However, God’s greatest rescue operation was accomplished by Yeshua Messiah, wherein He saved people from every tribe and nation to be a people for God, together with Israel. “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14) As scripture says, “all Israel will be saved.” (Rom. 12:26) Yeshua will return to earth and rescue Israel one last time in the worlds greatest battle of all time at Armageddon. (Rev. 16:16) All the worlds nations will come to annihilate Israel, but Yeshua, the Commander of the army of Heaven will rescue Israel and they will recognize him on that day as their Savior and Messiah. (Zac. 12:10; Rev. 19:11-21) Have you encountered your Rescuer, Yeshua Messiah?
