The Attraction of God

If God is so good why doesn’t the whole world’s population run to Him? First, masses of people have no knowledge of the one true God. Secondly, God lives in unapproachable light, He is invisible, He is Holy, He is not a billboard on the side of the highway. But, He sent His one and only son, God in the flesh, to make Him known in visible human terms. He was rejected by his own chosen people, even though there were numerous prophecies of the Messiah’s birth. All the objections have been answered, irrefutably, but there is a deeper issue that exists – God is an offense to the human ego. (Gal. 5:11; 2 Cor. 2:14-16) All the verifiable, attested goodness of Creator God is manifested through the good design of creation itself. (Rom. 1:20) How is God an offense to His own created beings? What evil separated God from the people He made for Himself and them from Him?

Before we consider these questions and others, keep in mind the story is not yet over. We will finish our brief lives on this earth, and our part in the story will be over, but the end is yet to come. (Spoiler Alert) In the end, all God’s plans and desires are completely fulfilled. How do we know? Because He has given us His revelation to John and the prophets, (Daniel, Zechariah and others), written in the Bible. It was God’s wisdom to know that the children of the enemy, those who reject God and disbelieve His son Yeshua, would do so irrespective of all the evidence and witnesses. Therefore, Yeshua spoke in parables so that in hearing they would not understand. (Luke 8:10) With the fall of man came the knowledge of Good and Evil and worldliness. “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” (1 John 2:16) God knows those who are his and He knows those who will never repent or turn to Him and be saved. We do not know this. Therefore, we share His love and message with all. To some it is attractive to others it is an offense, which brings us back to the question of why?

When man fell He became self aware and that self, ego, independent nature separated him from God. God calls us to submit and surrender ourselves to Him. His rule, ways, means, authority, rather than our own. This conflict is all or nothing, such that man, bereft of God, became utterly wicked and evil, unable to experience the goodness and love of God. (Gen. 6:5) When Yeshua, (Jesus’ Hebrew name) came to earth as God in human form, He demonstrated the love, goodness, compassion, mercy and grace of God in terms, words, actions that all could see. Moreover, Yeshua, satisfied the penalty of Mankind’s unlawful criminal action by dying in our place. With the curse set aside men can once again approach God and partake in His lovingkindness. This only requires faith to believe Yeshua and accept God’s free gift of eternal life in glory. Faith is surrendering and accepting that God exists and is who Yeshua said He is. God then pours His love into our hearts through the gift of His indwelling Holy Spirit. Once you taste His love, the attraction is overwhelming. (2 Cor. 9:8,15)
