His Abiding Presence

Abiding in the KJV is translated dwelling in the NIV, although to me abiding seems to denote a longer term presence. It is possible that recent generations of believers take for granted the Spirit’s presence. The Psalmist wrote, “Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying, ‘Arise, Lord, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. (Psalm 132:7-8) When there was a Temple in Israel the nation had a physical place to find God’s presence. Today, the Congregation of Believers constitutes the Temple, God’s dwelling place on earth. (Eph. 2:19-22) God has essentially come to us. If you do not believe this reality, you may be misunderstanding the Spirit’s indwelling presence. Yeshua said, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matt. 18:20) Scriptures explains that the mystery through the ages was revealed with the Messiah’s coming, “Christ in us”. (Col. 1:27)

Looking back in time mountain peaks of Spiritual manifestations are visible in the distance, with lesser hills rising above valleys and plains. These were gracious evidences of God’s mercy and love. However, a best friend is one who is always there, in the valleys and tedium of everyday labor. The Lord called us friend, those with whom we love to spend time, irrespective of the activity or pursuit. When we are together we reminisce about good times and relive the highlights, but just “hanging out” is the substance that make the good ole times sweet. Have you cultivated your friendship with the Spirit in casual prayer, worship and acknowledgment by simply being together in His presence?

I stood to go about my business, and thought how powerful is the Spirit of Almighty God to work change in the lives of men, I saw myself as His instrument, but as small and weak as a small child. There I stood before His greatness, tiny, but in Him part of God’s mighty work. There is nothing, or no one, who can resist God. The enemy says we have freewill and can resist God and His will, that we must first chose God or He would be violating His own rules. This is a lie built on partial fact, but be assured when God reveals His infinite love to a person, he or she will never want anything else. The goodness and love of God is irresistibly what we want and need.
