Spirit Power

“And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:17) It is possible for God to bring repentance, to prepare people to be ready for Himself. We have seen it before as the Spirit worked through Elijah. God sends revival.

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” “The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:34-35) Again the Spirit in power brought forth the Messiah according to God’s prophetic word, which can never fail. (v.37) Mary was specially blessed, but for a blessing to all mankind of Yeshua Messiah. “…for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.”(Luke 1:49-53) Though God worked mightily through Elijah, Elizabeth, Mary, John, He works in every generation, scattering the proud, lifting up the humble, and filling the hungry with good things. The Sovereign God is not a respecter of persons in favoritism, and He chooses when, how and whom He will use to accomplish His purposes.

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them… to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.” (Luke 1:68, 74-75) God is able and willing to redeem a people for Himself, to rescue them and enable them to serve Him in holiness and righteousness. Never is anything too hard for the Lord, as Yeshua said, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:40)

We are His sheep and He the good Shepherd. It is right to believe He is able to work in and through His people. He is the only Savior and Redeemer, every good and perfect gift comes from God above. There is nothing too hard for Him, the entire creation and every human ever born are subject to Him. As God said, “Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. They will say of me, ‘In the Lord alone are deliverance and strength.’ ” All who have raged against him will come to him and be put to shame.” (Isaiah 45:22-24; Romans 14:11) The scriptures are clear of God’s work upon and within His people; let’s ascribe to Him the Glory due Him, our efforts are worthless, but His Spirit Power is unlimited.
