God’s Person

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalms 139:13-16)

Some people speculate we came from God and return to Him. This scripture speaks of God’s creative action in our formation as individuals of flesh and bone culminating in the breath of life, which Adam and Eve received. (Gen. 2:7) That breath of life is the spirit of a living human. “…and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:7) Medical science can not define or make life. We see in scripture and history that life occasionally defies our understanding, people die and return to life. God answers prayers and dead people return to life. (1 Kings 17:20-22; Acts 20:9-12) Modern medicine can measure death and document it’s signs, but cannot explain how certain people have died for considerable amounts of time and come back to life. This is described as “life after death” or “near death” events and there are many books about it. Many of these events appear to evidence the recognition of an afterlife.

Scripture is clear, after we die a physical death we return to God. We come into life with nothing and return with nothing. We are given life and it is taken away. (Job 1:21) “The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.” (1 Corinthians 15:46) We are the physical descendants of Adam, however, every Believer will receive Spiritual life through Yeshua at the resurrection. The indwelling gifts of God’s Holy Spirit is a guarantee of this. “And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.” (1 Corinthians 15:49)

The mystery of life eternal is not whether or how we entered this natural world, but when we are raised to life eternal with new immortal heavenly bodies to reign in glory with our Savior and Lord, Yeshua Messiah. (1 Cor. 15:51-54)
